The Excel file provided contains detailed marriage tables for the electronic product Marriages, Australia 2004 (cat. no. 3306.0.55.001). Each worksheet in the file contains one table. There are twelve tables in total and these are listed and described below.

TABLE 1. SELECTED MARRIAGE INDICATORS, Australia, Selected years, 1984-2004
Contains data for Australia for 1984, 1994, and 1999-2004, on: marriages registered; crude marriage rates; previous marital status for first marriage and remarriage; marriages performed by religious and civil celebrants; relative birthplace of bridegroom and bride; cohabitation prior to marriage for all marriages; age-specific marriage rates for bridegroom and bride; marital status at marriage; and median age at marriage.
TABLE 2. INTERNATIONAL COMPARISON OF MARRIAGES
Contains number of marriages and crude marriage rate for selected countries for selected years. The source of this international data is the United Nations Demographic Yearbook, 2002 and earlier issues.
TABLE 3. AGE-SPECIFIC FIRST MARRIAGE, REMARRIAGE AND TOTAL MARRIAGE RATES, Bridegroom, Selected years, 1976-2001
Age-specific first marriage, remarriage and total marriage rates for bridegrooms based on the married population for 1976, 1982, 1987, 1992 and 1997, 2000 and 2001. Age of bridegroom is classified as 19 years and under, then five-year age groups to 50 years and over. Remarriage rates in five-year age groups to 60 and over.

Age-specific first marriage, remarriage and total marriage rates for brides based on the married population for 1976, 1982, 1987, 1992 and 1997, 2000 and 2001. Age of bride is classified as 19 years and under, then five-year age groups to 50 years and over. Remarriage rates in five-year age groups to 60 and over.

Contains data for Australia on the relative country of birth of bride; religious or civil marriage celebrant; marital status at marriage; median age at marriage; median duration of residence in years; and whether there was cohabitation prior to marriage.

Contains data for Australia on the relative country of birth of bridegroom; religious or civil marriage celebrant; marital status at marriage; median age at marriage; median duration of residence in years; and whether there was cohabitation prior to marriage.
TABLE 7. REMARRIAGES, Previous marital status, Interval to remarriage, 2004
Contains data for Australia for 2004 on the interval to remarriage for brides and bridegrooms. Interval is given in single years to 9 years, five year groups to 29 years and is then grouped for 30 years and over. It also includes the median interval to remarriage for both previously widowed and divorced brides and bridegrooms.
