Demography In South Australia: A Wrap-Up For 2000 South Australia's population reached the one and a half million mark in 2000, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today. After topping half a million in 1921, then one million in 1963, in 2000 our population grew by 0.3% over the previous year to reach an estimated 1,500,300 by 31 December. Demography SA, 2000 presents a comprehensive demographic profile of South Australia. It draws on registrations of births, marriages, deaths and divorces, together with estimates of the population and data from previous years to examine demographic trends.
