Cultural Diversity in Ageing 2007 National Conference
Melbourne, VIC

The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing presents this conference with the theme: "Behind every person is a long journey. Meeting the aged care needs of our culturally and linguistically diverse community." By 2011, it is predicted that nearly 23% of Australians aged 65 and over will be from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. This conference will provide the opportunity for the aged care industry to understand the needs of our culturally and linguistically diverse society, exploring issues around language and communication, current and future service responsiveness, culturally inclusive management and policy development.

Australian Social Policy Conference
Sydney, NSW

The theme for the 2007 conference presented by the Social Policy Research Centre is 'Social Policy through the Life Course: Building Community Capacity and Social Resilience'. This theme encapsulates two interrelated issues in social policy. The first concerns life-course transitions, including the diverse challenges and opportunities which people experience within their age, gender, social, economic and cultural contexts. The second focuses on identifying the interconnections between social investment policies, services and programs which build both community capacity and social resilience for individuals situated within their social networks.

Call for papers: The organisers are inviting offers of papers from researchers, teachers, students and practitioners of social policy, based on the thematic strands:

  • Labour market participation and welfare reform
  • Income distribution and social inequalities
  • Retirement and ageing
  • Children, young people and families
  • Identity and diversity
  • Community and place
  • Organisation and delivery of human services
  • Citizenship and participation
  • An Open strand will also exist for papers on other subjects of interest and importance outside the main themes.

Closing date for submission of abstracts is 9 April 2007.

The Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey Research Conference 2007

The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for the discussion of research based on the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia Survey. Attendance at the conference is open to all persons interested in the HILDA Survey and longitudinal survey research. Submissions of papers are now being sought.
