CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK The following diagram illustrates the framework for statistics relating to work-related injuries. Persons who worked at some time in the last 12 months were asked whether they experienced a work-related injury or illness in that period. Work-related injuries and illnesses are broadly defined as any injury or illness or disease which first occurred, in the last 12 months, where a person suffers either physically or mentally from a condition that has arisen out of, or in the course of, employment. The injury or illness is in scope if the respondent first became aware of it in the last 12 months, even though it may have been caused before that.
