Data from National Regional Profiles has revealed that the local government area of Kingborough has almost 80 per cent of households with access to the internet, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

Lisa Conolly, Director of Rural and Regional Statistics National Centre said the ABS's National Regional Profile makes it easy for local communities to view a wide range of different data for their region.

"With over 3,000 regions available, people will be able to easily locate data and build their own stories," Ms Conolly said.

Data is available on hundreds of items including, population, births, average income levels, number of aged pensioners, number of motor vehicles, land use, and much more.

For example, did you know:

  • The largest number of businesses with one to four employees were in Hobart (1,316), Launceston (1,159) and Clarence (651).
  • Brighton had highest fertility rate (2.9 per cent).
  • Hobart had the highest percentage (82.4 per cent) of young people (15 to 19 years) fully engaged in work and/or study.
  • More people living in Brighton (76.3 per cent) and George Town (75.9 per cent) travelled to work by car than those from other regions.

Regional information is available over a five year period up to 2011, so local communities can track changes over time in the characteristics of their areas.
