Satisfaction with Victorian Water Quality Increases Over Last Ten Years

The majority of Victorians were happy with the quality of their water supply in March 2004, according to a report released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The report shows that of Regional Victorians with mains/town water 63% were satisfied with its quality, an increase of 12% since 1994, while people in the Melbourne Statistical Division showed a satisfaction level of 82%, an increase of 6%.

Only the Outer Western Melbourne statistical region (which includes the Local Government Areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Melton and Wyndham) and the Goulburn/Ovens-Murray statistical region in regional Victoria showed a drop in satisfaction by 4% and 1% respectively.

Other highlights in State and Regional Indicators, Victoria include:
  • Government-owned housing rates were highest in the Local Government Area (LGA) of Yarra with 70 per 1,000 people, followed by Port Phillip with rate of 38.
  • There was a 12% fall in the value of total engineering work done in Victoria during September quarter 2004.
  • The number of part-time workers in Melbourne increased by 9% over the year ending February 2005, compared to a 7% increase for Victoria.
  • The number of dwelling units approved per 1,000 population over 2004 was the highest in the LGA of Melbourne (38) followed by Melton (30).
