Productions made primarily for television Productions made other than for television PRODUCTIONS MADE PRIMARILY FOR TELEVISION During 2006-07, $1,366.2m was spent on productions made primarily for television. The graph below shows that news and current affairs incurred the highest production costs ($411.5m or 30.1%), followed by light entertainment and variety ($306.1m or 22.4%) and sport ($268.4m or 19.7%). Of the 55,546 commercial broadcast hours for first release productions made primarily for television during 2006-07, sport accounted for 39.9% (22,181 hours). News and current affairs accounted for 37% (20,566 hours). Television broadcasters accounted for $889.3m (65.1%) of production costs and 29,064 (52.3%) of first release commercial broadcast hours. Collectively, subscription television content channel providers and film and video production and post-production services businesses incurred $476.8m (34.9%) in production costs and produced 26,482 (47.7%) first release commercial broadcast hours. PRODUCTIONS MADE OTHER THAN FOR TELEVISION During 2006-07, 652 film and video production and post-production services businesses created 14,269 productions other than for television and incurred $273.2m in production costs. The graph below shows that feature films accounted for 67.3% ($183.8m) of total production costs, while corporate, marketing and training media accounted for 26.2% ($71.7m).
