Canola is the principal oilseed crop in NSW. It is grown mainly in the Murrumbidgee and Central West Statistical Divisions. In 2000-01, canola production in NSW was 836,000 tonnes.

In 2000-01, 36% of all canola produced in NSW came from the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division (299,000 tonnes). This was followed by the Central West Statistical Division with 211,000 tonnes.

Preliminary data for 2001-02 indicate that area sown for NSW has increased slightly to 536,000 hectares; production has decreased by 14% to 716,000 tonnes.
