NOTES
CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE The 2019 review of the seasonally adjusted and trend series of short-term overseas visitor arrivals and short-term Australian resident returns has been undertaken. The Time Series Spreadsheets (Tables 1, 3, 4, 7 & 8) and their historical data have been revised and released in this issue. In preparation for this change, the list of countries and series IDs were updated in the previous issue. The ABS performs a series review at regular intervals. For further information, see point 1 in the Time Series Spreadsheet (I-Note) under the Downloads tab. The method for calculating trend estimates has also changed. The new method improved trend estimates by removing the "ripple" effects, which tend to be more inherent in the previous trend series for smaller series and lower level estimates. The result of removing these "ripple" effects is trend estimates which are less volatile and less prone to revisions over time. An article prepared for the March 2018 issue of Labour Force, Australia (cat. no. 6202.0) explaining the new method can be accessed here: Improvements to Trend Estimation DATA NOTES This release contains overseas movement data which should not be interpreted as 'persons'.
