MEDIAN TAXABLE INCOME OF MIGRANTS BY YEAR OF ARRIVAL

For all visa streams, increases in the median taxable income are highest in the first few years after arrival. For migrants who arrived in 2009, there was a 36% increase in real terms in their median taxable income between 2009-10 and 2010-11. For migrants who arrived between 2000 and 2006, more modest increases of around 2% to 5% are apparent between 2009-10 and 2010-11.

The percentage change in the median taxable income of migrants with a Humanitarian visa was generally higher than migrants with a Family or Skilled visa, except for the most recent arrivals. For those who arrived in 2009, migrants with a Family visa had the largest increase at 55%.

The following Graph presents the percentage change from 2009-10 to 2010-11 in the median taxable income of migrants by visa stream and year of arrival.
