South Australia is a major grain grower, accounting for more barley production than any other state. It is also responsible for the most vineyard area and production of any state. Apple growing is the principal non-citrus fruit industry of South Australia and is concentrated in the Adelaide Hills. Pastoral activities, particularly sheep grazing, are widespread in South Australia under varying climatic conditions from the arid saltbush plains in the far north through to the lush, well-watered pastures of the south east.
