Barley is grown predominantly west of the Great Dividing Range, extending along the centre of NSW from the Northern Statistical Division (SD) down to the Murray SD.

In 2001-02, production was 1.4 million tonnes.

In 2001-02, 34% of all barley produced in NSW came from the Northern SD (464,000 tonnes). This was followed by the Murrumbidgee SD with 244,000 tonnes.
