Errors have been detected in the column labels for 'Guest arrivals' and 'Guest nights' in Table 6 of the Tourist Accommodation Small Area Data Cube, South Australia released on 8 July 2004. The column labels were incorrectly showing '000 as the unit of quantity. These column labels have now been amended to show 'Guest arrivals (number)' and 'Guest nights (number)'. The table affected is:

Table 6: Accommodation Establishments by Selected Small Areas, South Australia

Note: Data contained in the data cube are correct and have not been revised.

NOTES

INTRODUCTION

These data cubes present results from the quarterly Survey of Tourist Accommodation (STA). The scope of the STA includes hotels, motels and guest houses and serviced apartments with 15 or more rooms.

HOTELS, MOTELS AND GUEST HOUSES AND SERVICED APARTMENTS

Data quality improvements

In the June quarter 2003 the ABS identified 132 hotels, motels and guest houses and serviced apartments which had been operating for a number of quarters but were not on the STA frame. These additional establishments were included in the STA from the June quarter 2003.

Break in time series

The addition of the 132 tourism establishments resulted in a break in time series between the March and June quarters 2003. The impact of the break in time series is explained in Appendix 1, Tourist Accommodation, Australia (cat. no. 8635.0), December quarter 2003. Particular care needs to be taken for all calculations of percentage changes that cross the break in series.

DATA REVISIONS

Revisions were made to Tourist Accommodation, Small Area Data, Australian Capital Territory (cat. no. 8635.8.55.001), for the September and December quarters 2003.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE

These data cubes no longer present comparative tourism region data for the same quarter of the previous year. Tourism regions are reviewed annually and are subject to boundary and name changes. Extensive changes have been made to tourism regions in Western Australia. Where changes have occurred care should be taken when making comparisons with previously published data at this level. For details of changes to tourism regions refer to Tourism Theme Page.

STAR GRADING

Star grade classifications of establishments have been revised by AAA Tourism Pty Ltd. These changes have affected star grade tables in this publication. Further changes are expected to impact June and September quarter 2004 data. These changes should be taken into account when making comparisons with previous quarters.

CAPACITY COUNTS
A Feature Article presenting counts of accommodation establishments and capacity as at March 2004 will be available on 22 July 2004.
