Release of June quarter 2002 National Accounts Following a request from the Treasurer, the Australian Statistician has decided to release the June Quarter 2002 National Accounts one day earlier, at 11.30 am on Tuesday, 3 September 2002. There is an established expectation that the Treasurer will be available to comment on key macro-economic statistics such as the National Accounts soon after release. This would not have been possible on this occasion because the Treasurer would have been in flight to Mexico for the APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting at the scheduled release time. More generally, the ABS has been taking steps to improve the timeliness of its National Accounts and expects to be able to implement ongoing improvements from 2003.
