Grape production in NSW is concentrated in the Murrumbidgee and Murray Statistical Divisions.
Data for 2002-03 indicate there were 34,300 hectares of bearing vines in NSW; a further 2,700 hectares had been planted but were not yet bearing fruit; 386,900 tonnes of grapes were produced and the great majority (94%) were grown for winemaking.
Four varieties of grapes accounted for just over 62% of all production: shiraz (83,200 tonnes), chardonnay (71,400 tonnes), cabernet sauvignon (44,700 tonnes) and semillon (42,400 tonnes). White grape production (197,900 tonnes) exceeded red grape production (189,000 tonnes).

Data for 2002-03 indicate 48% of all grape production in NSW came from the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division (185,000 tonnes). This was followed by the Murray Statistical Division with 121,300 tonnes.
