LAND PREPARATION In 2012-13: Around 46,500 agricultural businesses prepared 20.5 million hectares of land for crops and/or pasture. Approximately 70% of this prepared land (14.3 million hectares) was not cultivated. About 25,700 businesses reported that they undertook one or two cultivations on some of their land when preparing land for crops and/or pasture, accounting for 5.2 million hectares of land prepared for crops and/or pasture. Approximately 8,310 businesses reported undertaking three or more cultivations on some of their land in preparation for crops and/or pasture. The proportion of prepared land in each state undergoing no cultivations, 1 or 2 cultivations and 3 or more cultivations is illustrated in the graph below.
