APRIL KEY POINTS
TREND ESTIMATES
- Trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals to Australia during April 2007 (483,500 movements) increased by 0.4% compared with March 2007 (481,500 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.6% for February 2007 and 0.5% for March 2007.
- Currently, short-term visitor arrivals are 6.9% higher than when the series last troughed in July 2006 (452,500 movements) and 5.4% higher than in April 2006.
- During April 2007, short-term resident departures (435,200 movements) increased by 0.7% compared with March 2007 (432,000 movements). This followed monthly increases of 0.7% for February 2007 and 0.8% for March 2007.
- Short-term resident departures have continued to increase since the trend break from December 2006 was introduced.
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED ESTIMATES
- Seasonally adjusted estimates for short-term visitor arrivals during April 2007 (477,100 movements) decreased by 5.0% compared with March 2007. This followed a monthly decrease of 2.2% for February 2007 and a monthly increase of 7.5% for March 2007.
- Short-term resident departures for April 2007 (441,000 movements) decreased by 0.6% compared with March 2007. This followed a monthly decrease of 2.7% for February 2007 and a monthly increase of 7.5% for March 2007.
ORIGINAL ESTIMATES
- In original movement terms, there were 438,600 short-term visitor arrivals to Australia and 436,400 short-term resident departures from Australia during April 2007.
