LABOUR FORCE STATUS

People with higher levels of educational attainment were more likely to be employed, with 80% of persons with a Bachelor degree or above and 75% of persons with an Advanced Diploma, Diploma or Certificate III or IV being employed. This compares with 66% of persons with Year 12 as their highest attainment and 46% with Year 11 or below as their highest attainment. (Table 9, Table 21)

Women with children aged less than 15 years were less likely to be in full-time employment (27%) than men with children of the same age (84%). They were more likely to be in part-time employment (36% compared with 6.8%) or to not be in the labour force (33% compared with 6.3%). Women whose youngest child was aged less than five years were more likely to not be in the labour force (43%) than women whose youngest child was aged 5 to 9 years (25%) or women whose youngest child was aged 10 to 14 years (20%).

Women with children aged less than 15 years who had higher levels of educational attainment were more likely to be employed than those with lower levels. Amongst women with a child aged less than 15 years, 73% of women with a Bachelor degree or above were employed compared with 46% of women who had Year 11 or below. (Table 21)
