The quarrying of limestone is the earliest recorded mining activity in Tasmania for non-metallic minerals other than coal.

LIMESTONE AND DOLOMITE
Beams Bros Pty LtdQuarries at Flowery Gully and Cressy produced 150,000 tonnes in 2000-01. Including:
  • 85,000 tonnes of agricultural limestone and dolomite
  • 38,000 tonnes of dolomite
  • 15,200 tonnes of material for limestone flux.

About 1,400 cubic metres of gravel was also produced.

The Smithton quarry produced:
  • 38,000 tonnes of agricultural dolomite
  • 5,000 tonnes of screened rock

An additional 5,000 tonnes of concrete was sold.
