Between 2002 and 2005, Tasmania's installed electricity generating capacity increased from 2,502 MW to 2,570 MW, due to the introduction of wind farms on the mainland of Tasmania. On 17 October 2005, the wind energy generation company Roaring 40s separated from Hydro Tasmania. Wind energy generation is not available after that time.

(a) Figures do not include Bass Strait islands.
(b) Year ending 30 June.

(c) Generation for 2004-05 and previous years is gross energy measured at the generator. Following entry into the National Energy Market, mainland Tasmania generation for 2005-06 is the net energy measured at the market and distribution connection points.
(d) Since 2003, the Bell Bay diesel oil-fired power station has been fuelled by natural gas.
(e) Wind energy indicated for mainland Tasmania in 2005-06 is from 1 July 2005 to 17 October 2005, when Roaring 40s Pty Ltd separated from Hydro Tasmania.
