OVERVIEW
In 2010-11, the estimate of cultural expenditure by the New South Wales Government was $835.4m or 27% of the cultural expenditure by state and territory governments. This was a fall of 3% from $862.4m in 2009-10. Recurrent expenses accounted for 82% of New South Wales Government cultural expenditure. The estimate of per person expenditure by the New South Wales Government was $116.40. (Tables 4 and 5)
In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure of New South Wales Government funds on Heritage activities fell 6% to $710.4m. This fall was largely attributable to a 9% ($36.7m) drop in Environmental heritage expenditure.

In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure of New South Wales Government funds for Arts activities increased by 14% to $125.0m. The categories driving this increase were Music theatre and opera, Other arts and Visual arts and crafts with expenditure increases of 90% ($5.5m), 36% ($4.7m) and 121% ($4.6m), respectively.
