Aurora Energy is responsible for the distribution and retailing of electricity in Tasmania. From 30 June 2002 to 30 June 2006, Aurora Energy installations in Tasmania rose by 4.4% from 248,544 installations to 259,590 installations. This increase has been driven largely by residential and unclassified customers.

From 30 June 2002 to 30 June 2006, sales of electricity in Tasmania increased by 752.6 million kilowatt hours (7.9%), from 9,546.2m kWh to 10,298.8m kWh. At 30 June 2006, major industrial power installations in Tasmania consumed the largest proportion of electricity, 5,930.8m kWh (57.6% of all Aurora Energy sales).
