The median age (the age where there are as many people marrying above the age as there are people marrying below it) at first marriage in Tasmania in 2005 was 30.2 years for men and 28.0 years for women. This compares to 24.7 years for men and 22.6 years for women in 1985. Generally, the median age at first marriage in Tasmania has been lower than the total for Australia until recently when the ages are very similar (30.0 for men and 28.0 for women for Australia in 2005).
