Over many thousands of years, Indigenous people have left signs of their occupation in Tasmania. The reminders of where they lived, ate, hunted or collected food, and their art and their sacred sites are all part of Tasmania’s heritage. Data showing the number of Indigenous places of heritage by State and type can be found in the Australian Heritage Commission Annual Report 2002 - 03 at http://www.ahc.gov.au. Data is broken down into 16 categories including: fish and eel traps, art sites, ceremonial sites, stone arrangements, etc.
