At 30 June 2005, some 21,300 people were employed in manufacturing in Tasmania. This number has remained relatively stable over the last four years.
At 30 June 2005, the Food, beverage and tobacco manufacturing subdivision remained the largest employer in the Manufacturing industry, employing 4,800 people (22.5% of the total Tasmanian manufacturing workforce), despite a decline of 200 over the 2003-04 figure. The highest growth was observed in Machinery and equipment manufacturing, which employed 400 more than in 2003-04.
