Life expectancy refers to the average number of years a person can expect to live if current age-specific mortality rates do not change during the person's lifetime.

Throughout Tasmania, life expectancy at birth is greater for females than for males. Males and females born in the Greater Hobart area can expect to live longer than those born elsewhere in the state, with males in Greater Hobart expected to live 76.4 years and females 81.2 years.
