There were 3,876 deaths recorded in Tasmania in 2001. The greatest number of these, 47.1%, occurred among residents of the Greater Hobart-Southern Region. Diseases of the circulatory system were responsible for 38.3% of deaths recorded, while malignant neoplasms (malignant cancers) caused 27.3% of deaths in Tasmania.
