LONG TERM CONDITIONS
Long term conditions are defined as an illness, injury, or disability which has lasted at least six months, or is expected to last for six months or more. In the 2004-05 National Health Survey, an estimated 79.0% of Tasmanians had one or more long term conditions.
For Tasmanian males, the most common long term conditions were: long sightedness (26.7%); back pain and disc disorders (18.3%); and arthritis (16.9%).
For Tasmanian females, the most common long term conditions were: long sightedness (31.5%); arthritis (23.8%); and short sightedness (22.2%).

SELF-ASSESSED HEALTH
The 2004-05 National Health Survey asked people to assess their overall health. In 2004/05, 81.2% of the Tasmanian population aged 15 years and over reported their health as good, very good, or excellent.
