DESCRIPTION
This publication presents information on young people aged 15-24 living in Australia. This age group encompasses differing stages, not only of physical development, but also educational and employment status, living arrangements, dependency and citizenship. Because youth is a transitional and sometimes turbulent period before adulthood, issues affecting young people are of concern to government agencies responsible for developing effective social policies and programs.
Major areas of social concern covered in this report include population, living arrangements and housing, health, education, working life, income, social participation, crime and safety. The report also includes summary tables of key statistics which illustrate the changes that have taken place over the last decade and highlight State and Territory differences.
This report is one of a series of three social report focussing on population groups. The others are: Children, Australia: A Social Report (cat. no. 4119.0) and Older People , Australia: A Social Report (cat. no. 4109.0).
