DESCRIPTION
This publication presents information on young people aged 12-25 years living in Australia. This age group encompasses differing stages, not only of physical development but also of educational and employment status, living arrangements and dependency. The national publication, together with individual reports for each State and Territory, are based on data from the 1996 Census of Population and Housing. These publications are published jointly by the ABS and the National Youth Affairs Research Scheme.
The national publication features summary tables of selected characteristics of young people. More detailed information is presented in four chapters, organised by major areas of social concern population, cultural diversity, living arrangements, and education and working life. Comparative data from the 1986 and 1991 Census are also included in some tables to provide a time dimension.
