DESCRIPTION
This publication presents information about people aged 65 and over living in Australia. Because older people often need health and other support services, issues affecting older people are of concern to government agencies responsible for developing effective social policies and programs.
Major areas of social concern covered in this report include population growth and distribution, living arrangements and care, health and disability, housing, transport, use of technology, crime and safety, employment, income and financial security, and social participation. The report also includes summary tables of key statistics which illustrate the changes that have taken place over the last decade, and highlight State and Territory differences.
This report is one of a series of three social reports focussing on population groups. The others are: Youth, Australia: A Social Report (cat. no. 4111.0) and Children, Australia: A Social Report (cat. no. 4119.0).
