DESCRIPTION
This survey provides information on the diversity of employment and superannuation arrangements of people in Australia. Data include working patterns and hours, casual work, shift work and home-based work. The survey examines a range of family related issues, such as the working arrangements of parents with young children and the relationship between breaks in employment and superannuation.
The need for detailed information on employment arrangements has arisen because of the decline in full-time, permanent jobs and the growth in different forms of employment, such as casual and contract work. Accurate information about people's superannuation contributions and superannuation 'account balance' is essential to developing effective retirement income policies.
SCOPE
All persons aged 15-69 in private dwellings except certain diplomatic personnel of overseas governments, members of non-Australian defence forces (and their dependents) stationed in Australia and overseas residents visiting Australia. The survey is conducted in both urban and rural areas in all States and Territories, but excludes persons living in some remote and sparsely settled parts of Australia.
DISSEMINATION
Publications
The findings of the survey will be released in mid 2001.

A confidentialised unit record file will be released from this survey.
