DESCRIPTION
This survey provides information on the participation of persons involved in unpaid voluntary work through an organisation or group. Information collected on volunteering includes the type of organisation with which the voluntary work is associated, type of activities carried out, time spent volunteering, the characteristics of the volunteer, the perceived benefits of volunteering and the reason for volunteering.
The Voluntary Work Survey excludes care and support provided to family members, these dimensions of care are available from the Disability Survey and Time Use Survey.
SCOPE
Persons in scope of the Labour Force Survey who had undertaken voluntary work in the 12 months prior to the survey. Excludes persons in non-private dwellings.

Conducted in 1995. A second survey is scheduled for 2000.
METHOD OF COLLECTION
Monthly Population Survey.
HISTORICAL DATA
None. It is expected that the survey planned for 2000 will be shorter than the survey conducted in 1995, however the output for key data items will be comparable.
