DESCRIPTION
Statistics on deaths registered in Australia are compiled from information provided by the Registrars of Births, Deaths and Marriages in each State and Territory. Death statistics are used to inform the development and evaluation of public health policies and programs and in the analysis of past population changes which are used to make projections of population and other demographic characteristics.
Statistics from these collections are published in Deaths, Australia (cat. no. 3302.0) which presents detailed statistics on deaths and causes of deaths registered in Australia. It includes information on infant deaths, deaths of Indigenous people, death rates and expectation of life at birth. Australian Life Tables are included. Each edition usually contains a feature chapter focusing on an issue related to death.
