DESCRIPTION

This survey provides information over a 12-month period about the employment patterns of the civilian population including duration of employment and time spent looking for work. It includes information about changes to a person's labour force status (employed, unemployed, not in the labour force) during the survey period. Estimates can be cross-classified by standard demographic characteristics such as age, sex, marital status, relationship in family and birthplace.

The survey is a major source of data for analysing the dynamic nature of the labour force. Data are used to develop and assess job training and retraining programs for people, including those with family responsibilities, whose labour force status has changed. Data from this survey are also used to assess immigration needs.

SCOPE
