An entry can be located by either the name of the statistical collection, the publication title, or the subject.
DIRECTORY ENTRIES
These are arranged within the broad topics of Family and Community, Population, Labour Force, Income and Housing, Health, Indigenous Statistics, General Social, and Social Reports. Each entry is organised under headings which are described below. Some directory headings apply to all entries but others are specific, depending on whether it is a statistical collection or publication which is being described.

Description
Describes the data available, the main reasons the statistics are collected, and their relevance to the roles and functions of the family.
Scope
Outlines the target population of the collection. (For statistical collections).
Dissemination
Publication(s)
Lists the title and ABS catalogue number of publication(s) that contain child and family related data. (For statistical collections).
Title(s)
Lists the title and ABS catalogue number of publication(s) that contain child and family related data. (For publications).
Data service
Whether customised unpublished data are available. The ABS can provide customised data in a variety of formats, such as floppy disk and CD-ROM. Whether State tables, Confidentialised Unit Record Files (CURFs) are available. (For statistical collections).
DATA DETAILS
Describes the counting units for which data are available. Also lists, by topic, the relevant child and family information collected. For surveys, topics covered may differ from survey to survey. Information included under the data detail heading generally refers to the most recent survey. (For statistical collections).
CONTENT
Lists the child and family related data for publications and the chapter headings of social reports. (For publications).
GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE
The geographic area for which data are reliably available e.g. Australia, States, Territories, capital cities, statistical divisions, statistical local areas, local government areas. (For statistical collections).
FREQUENCY OF COLLECTION
Monthly, quarterly, annual, irregular. (For statistical collections).
FREQUENCY OF PUBLICATION

METHOD OF COLLECTION
Information about the method of data collection, population covered, sample size. (For statistical collections).
HISTORICAL DATA
The period(s) for which past data are available and whether data are broadly comparable. (For statistical collections).
HISTORY OF PUBLICATION
Release date for the first issue of the publication, lists changes to publication titles. (For publications).
