DESCRIPTION
This survey provides information on the job search experience of unemployed people. It covers information on two key aspects: steps taken to find work and barriers to obtaining work. The publication includes information on duration of unemployment by reason, educational attainment and main field of study. Estimates can be cross-classified by standard demographic characteristics such as age, sex, marital status, relationship in family and birthplace.
Data from this survey are used to assess labour market trends and to develop policies and programs aimed at helping unemployed people, including those with family responsibilities, in their transition to work.
SCOPE
Persons in scope of the Labour Force Survey (Labour Force) who are unemployed, except those who were waiting to be called back to a full-time or part-time job from which they had been stood down without pay for less than four weeks. Excludes persons in non-private dwellings. Since 1997, excludes persons living in some remote and sparsely settled parts of Australia.
