STANDARD QUESTION MODULES

21. The method of obtaining data on 'Year non-school qualification completed' is direct question. Where questions on multiple qualifications are asked, the 'Year non-school qualification completed' question can be asked for each qualification.

22. The 'Year non-school qualification completed' standard question module is preceded by a question ascertaining that the respondent has a non-school qualification. This is done using the standard question module for 'Level of highest non-school qualification'(Q3). 'Year non-school qualification completed' then uses the following recommended question module:

Q5	In which year did [you] [the person] [(name)] complete that qualification?

	Prior to 1980	No more questions

	Year (1980 onwards)

	Q5A	Enter year qualification was completed (in the format yyyy)

23. For collections where there is no requirement for individual years to be ascertained, the following question module may be used:

	Q5	Did [you] [the person] [(name)] complete that qualification before 1998?

		Yes, before 1998

		No, 1998 or later

24. For self-completed collections the following question module is used:

Q5	In which year did [you] [the person] complete their highest qualification?


	Year study completed

25. For self-completed collections where there is no requirement for individual years to be ascertained, the following question module may be used:

	Q5	Did [you] [the person] complete this qualification before 1998?

		Yes, before 1998

		No, 1998 or later

STANDARD INPUT CATEGORIES

26. The standard input categories are single complete years. Also included is the input category Prior to 1980, and for operational reasons, the supplementary codes which enable inadequately described responses to be coded and which are used for persons where the attainment is not stated or inadequately described.
