DESCRIPTION
This survey provides information on the participation in the labour force and characteristics of people who migrated to Australia as adults. Information covering a number of issues is presented including country of last residence, details of family member(s) arriving with migrant(s) and/or family member(s) already living in Australia, and State in which first settled.
Estimates can be cross-classified by standard demographic characteristics such as age, sex, marital status, relationship in household and birthplace. Information on whether migrants had family or friends in Australia before migration is also available as well as their migration category and proficiency in spoken English.
SCOPE
Persons in scope of the Labour Force Survey who were not born in Australia and who arrived in Australia after 1970 aged 18 years and over, and obtained permanent resident status. Excludes persons in non-private dwellings. Since 1997, excludes persons living in some remote and sparsely settled parts of Australia.
