DESCRIPTION
Statistics on births registered in Australia are compiled from information provided by the Registrars of Births, Deaths and Marriages in each State and Territory. Data from this collection are used to inform the development of public health policies and programs and to project population and other demographic characteristics.
Statistics from these collections are published in Births, Australia (Cat. no. 3301.0) which presents information and analysis on the number of confinements and live births registered in Australia. It includes information on the characteristics of the mother, the father and if there were any previous children from the current relationship.
