Purpose
To provide a comprehensive source of business names and addresses from which selections can be made for inclusion in ABS economic censuses and surveys.
Description
The Business Register comprises a comprehensive list of businesses which employ wage and salary earners. Data are sourced from group employer registrations (with Australian Taxation Office) and feedback and updating from ABS collections.
Statistical units on the Register are:
Legal entity;
Enterprise group;
Management unit;
Establishment; and
Location.
Data Detail
Counts of businesses;
Aggregate employment of business;
Industry type based on ANZSIC;
Size of business (employment range); and
Type of legal organisation.
Data are available for the above items for business units classified to the transport industries.
Geographic Coverage
Australia, States and Territories, SLA. Data are also available for aggregates of SLAs and postcodes.
Frequency of Data Availability
Data are available annually.
Historical Data
Data are available from May 1986. Historical data are not recommended for time series analysis.
