MEASUREMENT ISSUES
54. To accurately code responses of 'Diploma' to the Narrow or Detailed Levels of the ASCED Level of Education Classification, the 'Year non-school qualification completed' question is necessary. For more information see the Discussion of Conceptual Issues section above. The question is also required for the ABS edit procedure applied to Certificate responses.
55. In most circumstances the determination of 'highest' is dependent on respondent perception of which non-school qualification, if any, is their highest. This in turn may impact on the derivation of 'Level of highest educational attainment'.
56. No other specific measurement issues apply to the variable 'Level of highest educational attainment' beyond the normal constraints affecting statistical collections, such as problems with confidentiality or standard errors which may not permit the collection or output of data for some of the categories at the more detailed levels of the classification.

57. Correspondence tables have been prepared between the ASCED Level of Education Classification and its precursor, the ABSCQ. These correspondence tables can be found in the ASCED (cat. no. 1272.0).
