DESCRIPTION
This survey provides information on the number and characteristics of employees engaged in home-based work and their conditions of employment. Data are cross-classified by standard demographic characteristics such as age, sex, marital status, relationship in householdand birthplace.
Data from this survey are used for labour market policy and planning, and to compare the respective income and working hours of home-based employees with other workers. Home-based work is an area of employment of particular relevance to women trying to balance work and family responsibilities.
SCOPE
Persons in scope of the Labour Force Survey who are employees and usually work more hours at home than elsewhere in their main or second job. Excludes farmers, farm managers, farm hands and assistants and persons in non-private dwellings. Since 1997, excludes persons living in some remote and sparsely settled parts of Australia.
