ABOUT ABS ECONOMIC RESEARCH FROM THE CHIEF ECONOMIST
The purpose of the ABS's Economic Research Section is to undertake high quality research to address emerging challenges in economic measurement in order to enhance the statistics produced by the ABS.
The Economic Research Section will focus on research that:
- enables the ABS to clearly articulate a public position on emerging economic measurement challenges;
- informs stakeholders to answer key policy questions; and
- enhances the ABS's statistics by developing practical solutions and implementing these solutions into ABS statistical series.

Bruce Hockman was appointed as the first Chief Economist of the ABS in July 2017.
