Census positions for the adventurous
Australia’s largest ever peace time job drive is well underway and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) needs locals who enjoy the outback for specialist field positions
Census Remote Area Mobile Team Leaders are being recruited in Tennant Creek, and will travel to communities across the Barkly Shire to promote and run the 2011 Census of Population and Housing in August.
The Census aims to accurately measure the number of people living in Australia, their key characteristics and the places where they live.
Census District Manager for Barkly, Lyn Howes, says she is looking for local people with experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities who enjoy variety and travel.
"They can be ex-teachers, trades people, or support staff who want a well-paid and supported contract job working on the Census in communities across the Barkly region," Ms Howes says.
Census Local Engagement Manager, Elliot McAdam, says the jobs are ideal for people who enjoyed independence, have broad skill sets and can relate well to people.
"These positions are an opportunity for Tennant Creek people to be actively involved in achieving the most accurate Census count in the Barkly region, and to make a real difference to remote communities," Mr McAdam says.
Census Remote Area Mobile Team Leaders will receive $33 an hour and will be employed between 1 June and 11 September.
