Record 45 Census Collector jobs available in Broken Hill and surrounds

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for a record 45 Census Collectors in Broken Hill and surrounds to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.

These Collectors will join an army of 8,200 in NSW who will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households.

Far West District Manager, Jann Lawrence, is a local Broken Hill girl looking for other locals to help her get the best possible Census count.

With strong community roots including a long history with the Pastoralists Association, State Emergency Service and teaching at School of the Air, Jann is looking for community minded candidates.

"I'm looking for Collectors with a real understanding of the local lay of the land - the issues that affect the region and the people that live here."

"With 15 months of heavy rains in the region I need Collectors that know what roads and properties have been affected," Jann Lawrence says.

Jann believes that casual Collector jobs are a great way of making some extra cash.

"Collector jobs are flexible enough to suit part-time workers, parents of young children and people who are semi-retired," Jann Lawrence adds.

Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.

Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
