State wide Census recruitment launch
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has launched a state-wide recruitment drive in Victoria with more than 7500 part-time and casual jobs created as part of the Census of Population and Housing, to be held on 9 August 2011.
Victoria has 900 part-time Area Supervisor and 7,000 casual Collector positions available for community minded people passionate about contributing to their neighbourhood.
Area Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the distribution and collection of approximately 3 million Census forms to Victoria's 2.5 million households. "Area Supervisors are crucial to the success of the Census and ensure that Victoria is accurately counted. It is important quality data is collected on Census night to ensure we capture a true image of the modern Victoria," Census Director for Victoria, Sam Thomas, says.
Mr Thomas says the ABS is looking for Victorian residents from all cultural backgrounds, with great communication, organisation and administration skills to make the Census on Tuesday 9 August, 2011 a success. “Area Supervisors, particularly those with bilingual skills, help us capture a full and accurate picture of Victoria’s cultural diversity,” Mr Thomas added.
Area Supervisors will receive between $4,300 and $7,500 and will be employed from 18 April until 7 October.
To be an Area Supervisor or Census Collector, a person must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia, be at least 18 years old and have access to a vehicle and telephone. The ABS provides training for all Area Supervisors and Census Collectors.
