100 days until Census and hundreds of Collectors still needed in NSW

Monday 2 May marks 100 days until the 2011 Census and hundreds of Census Collectors are still needed in NSW.

NSW Census Director, Mark Harding says the Australian Bureau of Statistics has extended the Census Collector application period in shortfall areas until Thursday 12 May.

"We are experiencing a real shortage of applications in Sydney. I encourage people in inner Sydney, eastern and southern suburbs to apply now," Mr Harding says.

"We are also looking for more recruits in the Snowfields and Far West of NSW, particularly Broken Hill."

"In 100 days’ time 8,200 Census Collectors across the state will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households."

"Because these jobs are flexible they are ideal for students, semi retirees and part-time workers, who would like to earn some extra cash while helping their community."

“Collectors underpin the success of the Census and are the real life blood of the operation,” Mr Harding says.

2011 also marks 100 years of national Census taking in Australia.

“For 100 years Australians have participated in the Census, providing decision makers with vital information to help plan for the future of every community," Mr Harding adds.

Census Collectors will earn between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September 2011.
