Come on Gippsland, 2011 Census is counting on you!
Gippsland residents are being urged by the ABS to apply today for one of the many 2011 Census collector positions. Gippsland is currently experiencing low to no applications in some parts of the region.
Collectors will play a vital role in the distribution and collection of Census forms to Gippsland households, and will join an army of 7,000 collectors across Victoria.
Census Director for Victoria, Sam Thomas, said "We are still looking for collectors to work all over the Gippsland region and in some parts of Gippslands we haven't had even had one application"
Mr Thomas also said, "people most suited to this role are those who are community minded and passionate about contributing to their neighbourhood," adding, "these jobs are ideal for someone wanting to get back into the work force, those who are recently retired and part-time workers who would like to earn some extra cash while getting involved in their community."
Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September.
To be a Census collector, a person must be either an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia, be at least 18 years old and have access to a vehicle and telephone. The ABS provides training for all Census collectors.
Applications are open from 9 April until 19 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
