Record 8,200 Census Collectors jobs available in New South Wales

The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking for a record 8,200 Census Collectors in NSW to help conduct the Census on 9 August 2011.

From Bondi to Bourke, Bega to Broken Hill, Census Collectors in NSW will pound the pavement to deliver and collect more than four million Census forms to NSW's 3.1 million households.

These Collectors will form an army of 29,000 Collectors nationally making this Australia's largest ever peace time operation.

NSW Census Director, Mark Harding, says being a Collector is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of something big for your local area.

“The Census sheds some light on Australia by capturing a snapshot of the nation every five years. It provides essential data to decision makers and communities to help plan for a brighter future,” Mr Harding says.

"These jobs are ideal for students, semi retirees and part-time workers, who would like to earn some extra cash while helping out their community."

Already more than 1,100 Area Supervisors have been employed across NSW to train and manage teams of Census Collectors.

"We have had an outstanding response to our search for Area Supervisors. But now the challenge is on to recruit a record 8,200 Census Collectors in NSW," Mr Harding adds.

Census Collectors will receive between $1,300 and $2,800 for the casual position and will be employed from 1 July until 8 September.

Applications are open from 9 April until 5 May. Apply online at www.abs.gov.au/census or call 1800 420 182.
